A DIY enthusiast in Wales has been awarded for his skill at outdoor home improvements, it has emerged.
Winning the Shed of the Year 2009 prize, Steven Harwood’s Kite Cabin includes a toilet, satellite television and a woodburner among its facilities.
Standing at five sq m, he reveals that he designed and constructed the building himself, in part due to his dissatisfaction with the wide-scale trend of pre-ordered sheds.
“It is a realisation of my idea and I love it,” he adds.
Mr Harwood also states that the shed’s veranda and south-facing windows allow him to make the most of the natural scenery.
Sarah Beeny, TV property developer and one of the judges for the competition, states: “The shed quality gets better and better each year – it seems more and more people are embracing the joy of sheds.”
Meanwhile, Cosy Homes Online recently revealed the nation’s passion for sheds as the typical 30 to 76-year-old man spends over 12 hours a week in such outbuildings.
