People have been reminded by a health expert of the need to stay safe while doing DIY.
Stating that Britons are increasingly looking to tackle home improvements themselves, author of the Good Back Guide Barrie Savory suggests that taking the time to do some warm-up exercises can help to reduce the chances of suffering from a back injury.
His DIY advice comes as more than half (52 per cent) of people were currently shown to suffer from back pain, a rise of five per cent over the past 12 months.
Those who do develop such an injury, however, were advised to not lie down in bed but rather to stay active and keep the part of the body affected warm.
Such guidance could be particularly useful as 43 per cent of people are getting to grips with DIY rather than hiring a tradesman in an effort to save money.
It was also claimed an increasing number of homeowners will look towards carrying out renovations over the August bank holiday.
Speaking ahead of the last May bank holiday, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents spokesperson Jo Stagg claimed those planning home improvements should keep their working area clear as most accidents occur following a trip or fall.
