Creating your ideal home

– Home Improvement workshops, Kirstie Allsopp, George Clarke and Alan Titchmarsh to help the nation transform their homes and gardens at this year’s Ideal Home Show –

A recent survey by B&Q reveals that in what is expected to be Britain’s biggest year of home celebrations for a decade, an impressive 70 per cent of UK home owners admit to being house proud, with a quarter of us planning to do up our home and garden ahead of the Jubilee and Olympics festivities. However, in spite of these good intentions, the survey also highlighted that just four in ten people believe they have the necessary skills to tackle these projects themselves, and over a third (33 per cent) profess to being terrible at DIY.

Fortunately, this is set to change, thanks to B&Q who will be leading the way in helping the nation overcome their DIY fears at this year’s Ideal Home Show. The show opens at Earls Court London on 16th March where the UK’s largest home improvement and garden centre retailer will be supporting this year’s show by leading a series of daily ‘How to’ home improvement workshops which are expected to attract thousands of people during the show.

In addition, B&Q’s celebrity ambassadors Kirstie Allsopp, George Clarke and Alan Titchmarsh will be appearing at the show, doing what they do best and showing people how to get the best from their home and garden. As a recent survey by B&Q shows, of all the expert celebrities who people trust and would turn to for home and gardening advice, Alan, Kirstie and George come out on top.

B&Q will be hosting four daily sessions in the ‘How to’ Theatre, in which a team of B&Q experts will cover many of the jobs people put off or don’t feel confident doing including, painting***, wallpapering, flooring and a final session on how to create fabulous and co-ordinated looks within the home. The workshops will be presented by B&Q’s team of You Can Do It instructors, all highly experienced DIYers who teach daily DIY classes at 15 You Can Do It centres located in B&Q stores around the UK.

Visitors will also receive a postcard including details of each project and product used to take away with them.

On Wednesday 28th March (4.30 – 5.30pm), Kirstie Allsopp will be hosting a special Jubilee themed ‘Get the look’ workshop in which she will pass on her tips for styling your home as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations this summer. For further information on this and the full schedule of sessions at the ‘How to’ Theatre in association with B&Q, just visit the ideal home improvement section of www.idealhomeshow.co.uk.

Katherine Paterson, B&Q’s Marketing Director says; “As our research shows, many people are planning to do some home improvement ahead of this summer’s celebrations, but many are yet to feel confident about doing the jobs themselves. We are really excited to be leading the ‘How to’ Theatre at this year’s show, and hope our daily workshops will make people feel energised and ready to have a go themselves at home.

Our team of experts will be there to show you how simple it can be, whether it’s laying new flooring or painting a feature wall in the living room. We look forward to welcoming our celebrity ambassadors to the show who will be there to help make it easier for everyone to get the best out of their home and garden.”

On the 17th – 19th March, everyone’s favourite gardener Alan Titchmarsh will be putting his gardening expertise to good use, by demonstrating his essential tips to achieve the perfect, vibrant garden this summer in his ‘Bringing Colour into your Garden’ session.

On 28th March from 4.30 – 5.30pm, Kirstie Allsopp will be hosting her special Jubilee themed ‘Get the look’ workshop in the ‘How to’ Theatre in association with B&Q.

From 16th – 1st April, Celebrity architect and TV presenter George Clarke, will be hosting a number of interactive sessions in the ‘How to’ Theatre in association with B&Q under the theme; Making Space & Homes Work, Empty Homes & Restoration Man. George will be drawing on his experiences from his latest TV series, Restoration Man as well as his Great British Property Scandal campaign to bring visitors new insights on updating and getting the best out of their home.
