DIY enthusiasts have been urged to consider insulating their property or adopting simple "behavioural changes" to improve the energy efficiency of their home.
In order to reduce carbon emissions and save money, Emma Thompson, from E.ON, advised DIY Britons to invest in insulating their home this summer.
She said: "It is about the payback and insulation is typically a payback in year one for a lot of people."
Homeowners can also increase their energy efficiency on a small budget, according to Ms Thompson, who recommended making a number of subtle changes around the house.
"Make sure your curtains are open on a sunny day – this will heat your room," she explained. "Try not to use your tumble dryer, especially at this time of year when you can hang your washing outside."
Meanwhile, Anna-Marie DeSouza, deputy editor of Build It magazine, claimed recently that the football World Cup should create a "huge rush" to finish DIY jobs before the tournament begins.
