DIY enthusiasts have been told that the exterior of their homes is crucial as it determines their "curb appeal" and helps to create the all-important first impression, northjersey.com reports.
Pat Verlodt, president of Colour Services and Associates, an organisation that identifies colour trends, explained that the principal reason why choosing a colour for the exterior is important is that it is such a long-term decision.
Ms Verlodt stated that the average consumer keeps a car for less time than the average homeowner keeps the exterior of their property the same colour.
According to Ms Verlodt, home colours follow various trends and begin years in advance before entering the mainstream.
"Siding colour trends are slow to change because the trends themselves are long-term. They often begin in fashion or accessory colours, then neutralise over time and become popular home colours," she said.
Kristine Tucker, writer for helium.com, recently advised homeowners that warm tone colours can be used to create a surprisingly "fabulous" living room design.
