A DIY expert has explained why more needs to be done to improve the gap between the understanding and implementation of energy efficiency.
ServiceMagic recently reported that, in the US, while 58 per cent of consumers considered green options for the remodelling of their homes, only a small minority actually requested green or energy efficient alternatives for their DIY projects.
Michael Holmes, spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, explained why more work is still needed to make DIY projects more focused on energy efficiency.
"Over the last few years we have seen an increase in awareness of energy efficiency solutions in the home by consumers as well as a general understanding that they will save both money and reduce carbon emissions," he said.
"However, there remains a gap between understanding and implementation."
He added that it would be important to get the message across to homeowners that becoming more energy efficient will not necessarily be cost prohibitive.
