The Wolseley House is born, watch it grow

Updated:5th September 2019No Comments3 Mins Read

Wolseley House - lets-do-diy.comWolseley has announced that construction of the first ‘Wolseley House’ will begin on 5 September at BuildStore’s National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon.

Forming part of the UK’s only permanent centre for self builders and renovators, the exhibition will give visitors the rare opportunity to enter a house in its construction stages and to see state-of-the-art sustainable technologies in-situ.

Visitors will be able to see the house from day one of construction, with completion due at the end of October 2009 – after which visitors will be able to view the house fully finished.

The project consists of a 1,500sq ft, two-storey timber frame house and will be open for visitors to explore at pre fit-out stage. The Wolseley House particularly focuses on sustainable technologies. Many of these will be visible as either finished or semi-exposed products, revealing to visitors the elements required for installation.

Tim Doherty, managing director – BuildStore Building Support, said: “We are thrilled to have Wolseley coming to exhibit at the Centre. As one of our key partners, we believe its offering to TradeCard members and self builders is exceptional.

“To have the products displayed in our National Self Build & Renovation Centre in this way will help the self builder to understand the benefits of working with a merchant to buy building materials.”

The different stages of the build will be documented through photography, which will be available to view on the National Self Build & Renovation Centre website.

Grant Richardson, sales director – Wolseley’s heavyside division, added: “The Wolseley offering really covers all aspects of the self build programme – from site preparation to landscaping.

“The house will pay particular attention to sustainable building products – demonstrating how these new technologies can be implemented in the home and provide real environmental and financial benefits to self-builders’ and renovators’ projects.”

Products from Wolseley’s Plumb Center, Drain Center, Build Center, Electric Center, Encon, Bathstore and Brandon Hire businesses will all be present in the house – highlighting the range of products and technologies available from Wolseley, literally under one roof.

The house will also feature a merchant branch area, manned by a dedicated branch manager who can take orders for product, as well as look at plans, provide quotations and discuss project options.

Also showcased will be stylish kitchen and bathroom showrooms featuring underfloor heating, vaulted ceilings with the internal beams displayed and kitchen and bathroom design services will be available.

The ground floor of the building will feature a theatre in which seminars will be held. There will be a full seminar programme in place to provide self builders with a wealth of information on products and practices, and insight into the various stages of the construction of the house.
